New Principal Announced at Bishop LeBlond High School

Bishop LeBlond High School
Board of Directors

March 31, 2003

Dear Members of the Bishop LeBlond Community:

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce the appointment of Janet Wilcox as Principal of Bishop LeBlond High School, effective July 1, 2003. The Search Committee interviewed several well-qualified candidates and, after prayerful consideration and extensive discussions, chose Mrs. Wilcox to lead our fine school. I am grateful for the dedicated members of the Search Committee who embraced this challenge and approached this task with professionalism and sincerity.

Mrs. Wilcox comes to LeBlond with impressive academic credentials and valuable experience in Catholic education. She graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Education. She earned a Masters of Arts Degree in Educational Administration from Benedictine College, as well. Beginning in 1986, she taught social studies and religion at Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison. Prior to that time, she served as the Assistant Director of Students Activities at Park College in Parkville, MO. In 2001, she was named Vice-Principal of Mount St. Scholastica Academy and she still serves in that capacity.

Mrs. Wilcox comes to LeBlond well steeped in the Benedictine tradition and spirituality. She will provide our community with strong spiritual leadership as well as creativity and enthusiasm for the curricular and co curricular components of school life. She brings to our school community a deep seated faith and strong commitment to providing academic excellence to students in a community of mutual respect and love. Her experience at the Mount in the areas of discipline, staff and curriculum development, coupled with the fact that she has traveled extensively will enable her to provide LeBlond students and faculty with a rich perspective on the numerous educational trends and global issues of the 21st century.

Originally from Omaha, NE, Janet is one of nine children. She is married to Larry Wilcox who is currently the head football coach at Benedictine College. She credits her husband for providing her with a model of successful leadership attained through hard work, planning and vision. They reside in Atchison where they are active in their parish and in the Atchison community. They are also very familiar with St. Joseph, shopping, visiting here frequently, and availing themselves of the cultural and social activities of this city.

I know you join me in welcoming Mrs. Janet Wilcox to LeBlond and to St. Joseph. I feel that God has blessed us with an excellent leader who will serve our students, faculty and the community well in the years ahead.

Sincerely,

Alice Patterson Munninghoff '67
Chair, Board of Directors
