The counseling office has received information from MWSU concerning the ACT prep classes to be held on Saturdays from Sept. 18 to Oct. 16.  For more information and the application forms, see Mrs. Lister. Also available to assist with necessary ACT skills are the ACT Prep Shops hosted by NWMSU.  The one in St. Joseph is Saturday, Sept. 18.  Mrs. Lister has details. 

 Wendy High School Heisman recognition is now self-nominating. This award is available for 2010/2011 seniors who have participated in at least one sport and are school and community leaders. Apply at http://www.wendysheisman.com/  then click "Apply Now" for more information and application procedures.  As part of the registration you must select a school administrator to review your application.  Application cards are available from Mrs. Lister or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 800-205-6367.  The deadline is Oct. 3 2010.

For a general college scholarship base, try www.SchoolSoup.com.  There's lots of information, some of which may be pertinent to you and your student.
Volunteer opportunity at Rising Son Youth Ranch:  this is a horse riding camp with a therapy program, looking for volunteers.  Needed are people to help with the children, assist with preparing the child and horse to be ridden, and perhaps help teach horsemanship.  See Mrs. Lister for more information and volunteer descriptions.
We have received application forms for the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award.  These are available in the Counselor's office.  This award is sponsored
 by Soroptimist International for young women between 14 and 17 who are outstanding volunteers in our community.
There are a number of American Legion Scholarships available for students who are descendant of a veteran with at least 90 days of active service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, who received an Honorable Discharge.  Among those offered are one for boys who attended the American Legion Boys State of Missouri, for a student studying to be a registered nurse, for a student planning to obtain a degree in education.  See Mrs. Lister for the appropriate forms.
     
FastWeb is a good free Scholarship search site.  It advertises having access to 600,000 scholarships worth $1 billion.  Some are unusual, but it can be interesting as well as informative.
There are a number of Missouri Scholarships including areas of Animal Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Science, etc.

Nestle Very Best in Youth Award 
For students ages 13-18 who excel academically and show the potential to lead others.  To apply and receive $1000 to donate to the student's favorite charity to to http://verybestinyouth.nestleusa.com.  Further information is also available on this website.  Deadline:  Nov. 1, 2010.
