Afternoon Announcements

October 31, 2008   

Good luck to the varsity soccer team beginning district play tomorrow right here in Eagles stadium at 4:00 against Maryville. 

Lost and found has a purple and gold nylon soccer jacket.  Claim your belongings at the office. 

Attention, Sophomores !!!!  Following the My Success Event, the Missouri Area Health Education Center and Heartland Health are sponsoring a FREE follow-up workshop for those interested in the health care fields.  It will be Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch provided.  An RSVP is required by Nov. 9.  For more information, get a flyer at the Counselor's office. 

There is still time for parents to buy tickets for the Night of Golden Stars that is happening November 8.  Please remind your parents. 

There will be a girls’ tennis meeting for undergraduate players next Tuesday after school in Dr. Losson’s room.   Players should allow about a half hour for the meeting.  

Football cheerleaderswill have uniform turn-in next Wednesday in the locker room after school. 

This Sunday is that wonderful time of year when we actually get 1 extra hour to spend as we please.  Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday at 2 a.m.  Set your clocks back 1 hour. 

There will be a basketball officials’ clinic on Sunday, November 9th at 3 pm in the Cathedral gymnasium.  It should last about an hour. This would be great training for those who would like to officiate at middle school basketball games for service hours.  

If your parents were unable to come to parent/teacher conferences last week, they may pick up your grade card any school day between 7:30 and 4:00 in the school office. 

There will be a meeting after school Monday in the library for all boys freshmen through seniors planning to go out for basketball. 

November 1^st is All Saints Day, a celebration in the church of the lives of all those holy saints who have gone before us.  While it is not a holy day of obligation, we encourage everyone to attend Mass this weekend to pray in thanksgiving for the example of the lives of the saints and that we may try to follow their example so we may join the communion of the saints.  A list of Mass times is posted at the office.  Since the feast day falls on the weekend this year, many churches will simply mark the occasion at their regular weekend Masses. 

If you need to bring a note from parents for a recent absence, even if it was today, you must bring it to school before the end of the day Monday.  If you do not, you will be expected to stay after school Monday until a note is received from your parents.  Check the list posted at the office to see if you need to bring in a note explaining your absence from school. 

There is no dance practice today.

The election is almost upon us.  The need for prayer for decisions is important to the future of America.  Come join a prayer vigil at the Chapel of the Holy Rosary at Mir House.  The vigil will begin 7:00 am Monday, November 3 and we will be in prayer until 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 4.  The intent of prayer on November 3 is for personal discernment for voting.  The November 4 intent is for all Americans to vote with good conscience and in accordance with Jesus Christ’s teaching.  Bring your family and friends to the Chapel to pray for this election.

Monday we will be on A schedule as usual.

We have a few extra yearbooks for the school year ending 2008.  If you did not purchase one but would like to, please bring $50 to the office.  First come, first served till they are gone. 

Do you ever feel a need for a spiritual rest?  If so, please consider spending some time in adoration before the Holy Eucharist.  The Mir House grounds contain a chapel that is used for Perpetual Adoration and there is always a need for people to sign up for a time to spend an hour in the presence of the Lord.  Mir House is located on east Frederick across from Moffett’s Nursery.  For contact information see the flyer that is posted at the office.  Come experience the peace. 

The last day to register for this year’s Washington DC March for Life is November 30th.  See Mr. Wilczak for details.  

Any softball or baseball player interested in a batting cage hitting league may pick up a form from Coach Kastner.  Teams consist of 3 players and 4 inning games beginning November 10th at the Sandlot training facility.

Good morning!  Happy Birthday today to Erin Dillon and Sunday, getting an extra hour for their birthdays, Happy Birthday to Pat Lawhon & Hope Garrett. 

Congratulations to Dain Finney, Jackie Ziesel & Kelly Walker on earning All-District honors.  Congratulations to the Lady Eagle Volleyball team for their District Championship victory over Maryville last night!  The Lady Eagles captured their 3^rd straight district title!  Thanks to all the fans that traveled to Lathrop to support the team. Your support and excitement for the team is appreciated.  The Lady Eagles will play Saturday in Lexington at 4:30pm against Lafayette County.  Any freshman volleyball player planning to ride the bus to the sectional match should see Coach Huss today.

Blood Drive Factoid:  A newborn baby has about 1 cup of blood in its body.  Today is the last day to sign up!  Parentally signed permission slips are due tomorrow!  You must turn in a signed permission slip even if you are over 16.

Good luck to the varsity volleyball team in sectional play in Lexington at 4:30 and the cross country team running in districts at Swope Park in Kansas City.  The boys race is at 11:30 and the girls race at 12:30.  The top 2 teams as well as the top 15 runners will advance to state. 

Here’s a little Halloween joke:  Why didn’t the skeleton cross the road?  You come to the office after school with the punchline and a Halloween treat will be waiting for you!

ALL cross country runners are expected to be at the Hampton Inn this evening for the dinner and presentation at 5:00.  Underclassmen are reminded to bring their money for the senior gifts.  See Mrs. Harr if you have any questions. 

Any frosh volleyball player who would like to ride the bus to Lathrop, the bus leaves at 4:45.  If you are late you will miss the bus.  It will not wait.
