2009–2010 ACT Test Dates
The additional late registration fee is $18. Bishop LeBlond's high school code number for the ACT is 262-905 The Counselor's office has received pamphlets for the St. Joseph Public School System's Summer School Program. These classes could be remedial for students who need to "make up" credits, or they could be for enrichment, as in the Photography class being offered. Either way, educational opportunities are being offered that are available for our Bishop LeBlond students. Flyers are available in the Counselor's office or on-line materials are available at www.sjsd.k12.mo.us/summerschool. We have received materials and application forms for the 71st session of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri. This is a wonderful opportunity for high school junior young men who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their school. This educational program teaches young men the duties, privileges, responsibilities, and rights of American citizenship. Boys State will be held June 12-19 at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO. Materials are available in the Counselor's office or application may be found online at http://www.moboysstate.org/apply/ Applications are due by April 15, 2010 For a general college scholarship base, try www.SchoolSoup.com. There's lots of information, some of which may be pertinent to you and your student. An employment opportunity is available as a census taker for the 2010 census. Workers must be 18 by April 1, with no upper age limit. This is short term employment which might interest many. Call or stop by the Counseling center for the application packet or call 1-866-861-2010 for the job line. Volunteer opportunity at Rising Son Youth Ranch: this is a horse riding camp with a therapy program, looking for volunteers. Needed are people to help with the children, assist with preparing the child and horse to be ridden, and perhaps help teach horsemanship. Byrd Honors Scholarship Requirements: top 10% ACT $1500.00 per year for the first four years of study at a four year institution of higher education Forms available in the Counselor's office or http://dese.mo.gov/divteachqual/scholarships Deadline: April 15, 2010 We have received application forms for the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award. These are available in the Counselor's office. This award is sponsored by Soroptimist International for young women between 14 and 17 who are outstanding volunteers in our community. There are a number of American Legion Scholarships available for students who are descendant of a veteran with at least 90 days of active service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, who received an Honorable Discharge. Among those offered are one for boys who attended the American Legion Boys State of Missouri, for a student studying to be a registered nurse, for a student planning to obtain a degree in education. See Mrs. Lister for the appropriate forms. FastWeb is a good free Scholarship search site. It advertises having access to 600,000 scholarships worth $1 billion. Some are unusual, but it can be interesting as well as informative. Cappex.com This is a website for finding lots of different scholarships.
